Fine Line Tattoo

WHAT IS A FINE LINE TATTOO?

A fine line tattoo is a style of tattooing characterised by its use of very thin, delicate lines to create intricate and detailed designs. Unlike bold traditional tattoos, fine line tattoos often look more subtle and minimalistic, with minimal shading.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR TATTOO:

  • Do not consume alcohol for the 24 hours before your appointment (causes blood thinning which affects healing)
  • Do not take ibuprofen or blood thinning medication unless prescribed 24-48 hours before appointment
  • No caffeine before your appointment as this can make you and sensitive to pain
  • Avoid too much sun exposure on the area to be tattooed as we cannot tattoo over sunburnt or overly tanned skin
  • Hydrate well the day of
  • Eat a good meal before your appointment and bring snacks
  • Choose loose, comfortable clothes that give easy access to the tattoo area, and will not rub on it after the appointment

WHAT TO EXPECT:

Fine line tattoos can feel scratchy or stingy, but they're usually quicker and less intense than heavier styles. The most time consuming part is generally the beginning of the appointment where the design, sizing and placement is discussed, and the stencil is placed. Rest assured, you will be given plenty of time to decide on the design, size and placement of your tattoo as we understand this is a permanent treatment. Breaks can also be given whenever the client needs one.

AFTERCARE:

  • Keep second skin on for roughly 48 hours. Once removed, wash the area with a gentle soap and pat dry with a clean towel. Apply ointment immediately after
  • If plastic wrap was applied instead of second skin, remove after a few hours and follow the same cleaning protocol as above
  • Apply tattoo ointment (we recommend Dr. Pickles) 3 times a day for 2 weeks
  • Avoid picking or scratching the tattooed area, especially if it has scabbed. This can affect healing
  • You may want to wear loose fitting clothing on the tattooed area to avoid irritation
  • Do not submerge tattooed area in water for 2 weeks. This includes baths, the ocean or swimming pools
  • Avoid saunas for 2 weeks
  • Avoid direct sun exposure for 6 weeks - until tattoo is healed
  • Once healed (6 weeks) you may start to apply SPF to the tattooed area to prevent fading
