Lash Extensions
Lash extensions are false lashes applied with a strong-hold lash extension glue, and usually last anywhere between 2-5 weeks. These false lashes are usually made of silk, mink, cashmere or PBT and most lash extension glues are made of 80-95% cyanoacrylate. There are multiple different lash extension styles available out there such as classic, hybrid, volume, mega volume, etc. Read below for how to prepare and care for your lash extensions, as well as to decipher which available lash styles best suits your needs.
HOW TO PREPARE BEFORE GETTING LASH EXTENSIONS:
- Shower and wash your hair (if need be) because you will not be able to get your lashes wet for 24 hours after getting them done
- Make sure you remove any makeup, especially mascara before coming to your appointment as this can affect retention
- DO NOT drink any caffeine before your lash appointment as this causes shaky eyes
- Wear comfy clothes because you will be lying down for quite a while
- Take an antihistamine prior to, if you have sensitive or watery eyes
- Ensure that you've waited 6 weeks between having a lash lift and getting lash extensions
LASH EXTENSION AFTERCARE:
- DO NOT get your lashes wet for 24 hours. This includes no excessive perspiration, no steam, no saunas and no swimming
- You MUST clean your lashes with a dedicated lash cleanser every second day, or everyday if you have oily skin, excessively sweat or wear makeup everyday. (Lash cleansing kits are available to purchase at your appointment. Nothing can be used in place of a lash extension cleanser)
- No picking, pulling or rubbing your eyes or lashes
- DO NOT sleep on your face
- Avoid getting makeup and oil-based skincare products on your lashes/around the eye area
- Come back for a refill every 2-3 weeks to maintain good lash health, and keep the lash extensions looking fresh and full
- Brush lashes out daily (twice a day) but DO NOT overbrush
- DO NOT go in the sun/avoid extreme heat for 24 hours
- Some other things that can affect lash retention include dirty lashes, oily skin & eyelids, heavy makeup, tears/crying, hormones, medications, mask wearing, health issues and lash cycle
DIFFERENT LASH STYLES:
CLASSIC LASHES:
- One singular, thicker false lash, placed onto one of your natural lashes
- Gives the illusion of a 'wet, mascara look'
- Good for those with a lot of natural lashes
- Common misconception that this is the 'most natural' style of lash extensions. This is not the case, and can in fact look quite stark due to the nature of the false lash being thicker. See 'light volume lashes' below for a more natural lash vibe
LIGHT HYBRID LASHES:
- A mix of classic lashes and volume lashes, where one singular false lash is applied to every second natural lash, and a volume fan is applied to the remaining natural lashes
- Gives a more wispy look to your typical classic lashes
- One of the more natural lash styles
- Great for those that want a little bit more than classics but not as much as volumes
FULL HYBRID LASHES:
- A mix of classic lashes and volume lashes, where one singular false lash is applied to every second natural lash, and a volume fan is applied to the remaining natural lashes
- Great as a transition from classic to volume lashes
- Very similar look to volume lashes with the only difference being that they're not as full and are a little more 'spiky'
- Adds a bit of fluffiness to the typical classic lashes
LIGHT VOLUME LASHES:
- A 3-D fan is applied to every natural lash
- The most natural of all the lash styles
- Light fluff
- Good for those with not many natural lashes
- Flexible fans makes the lash extensions more comfortable on the eye
MEDIUM VOLUME LASHES:
- A 6-D fan is applied to 80% of your natural lashes
- A good inbetween for those who want more than light volumes, but not quite as dramatic as mega volumes
- Medium amount of fluff, and are significantly fuller and darker than light volumes
- Good for those with not many natural lashes
- Flexible fans makes the lash extensions more comfortable on the eye
MEGA VOLUME LASHES:
- A mix of 6-D and 10-D fans are applied to every natural lash
- Great for those who want a lot of volume and drama in their lashes
- Most similar to false strip lashes and are good for those who wear dramatic makeup/eyeshadow
- Very full, fluffy and dark
- Flexible fans makes the lash extensions more comfortable on the eye
- Not for the faint of heart or those who want a 'natural' look
At Eden Isabel, all lash styles are done with D-curl, black lashes, with the exception of requested custom lash extensions (must DM me prior to booking). Lash extensions used are made of cashmere and PBT. Sensitivity is normal when it comes to getting your lashes done due the nature of the strong and fumey lash glue used. If you have sensitive eyes, please prepare for a little bit of irritation during and for 48 hours after having lash extensions done.
